The “Dean of Intellectual Property,” Jack A. Wheat has joined the McBrayer Law Firm as a Member. He was the founder of the well-respected intellectual property boutique firm of Wheat, Smith & Beres, which merged into Stites & Harbison effective January 1, 2000. He was the Service Group Leader of that firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Services Group from 2000 until into 2012. Mr. Wheat’s practice specializes in trademark, copyright and patent infringement litigation, as well as trademark registration and maintenance. He is recognized nationally in the area of infringement litigation having successfully litigated such cases in over 30 states as well as in the United States Supreme Court.
Supers Lawyers Magazine consistently ranks Mr. Wheat as one of the “Top 50 Lawyers” in Kentucky, having so ranked him in 2008 and from 2011 through 2015. Another recognized ranking service, Best Lawyers honored Mr. Wheat as the “Trademark Lawyer of the Year” in Kentucky for 2015, and followed up that designating him as the “Intellectual Property Litigation Lawyer of the Year” for 2016.
Mr. Wheat is also an adjunct professor of intellectual property law at the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, and is coach of its Lefkowitz Trademark Law Moot Court Team. In addition to his JD, which he received from the University of Louisville in 1979, he has a BA in Economics from Hanover College.
